♻️⬆️ HUNDREDS OF TOURISM AND SERVICE BUSINESSES IN HUE CITY
COMMIT TO ACTION ON PLASTIC WASTE REDUCTION
📍 Hue, December 12, 2025 – The Hue Department of Tourism, in coordination with the project “Hue – A Plastic-Reduced City in Central Vietnam” (TVA/WWF-Vietnam), organized the Conference to review the plastic waste reduction roadmap in Hue’s tourism sector for the 2023–2025 period.

After three years of implementation, the program has recorded encouraging results, with hundreds of tourism and service businesses and household enterprises actively participating. Many hotels, travel companies, destinations, and restaurants have taken the lead in reducing plastic waste through concrete actions.
✨ Key achievements include:
♻️ 102 businesses and household enterprises committed to plastic waste reduction practices
📍 04 plastic-reduced tourism destinations, with 41 local businesses participating
🏨 12 pioneering hotels, reducing a total of 4.8 tons of plastic waste
🧳 05 travel companies implementing plastic-reduced tours; 02 pilot tours and 01 SOP for operating community-based plastic-reduced tours developed
🎓 18 training sessions, with 935 participants
👩🎓 More than 1,800 students and 75 international lecturers trained in tourism practices aligned with plastic reduction
🚰 12 waiting shelters and free drinking water refill stations installed at tourist sites, helping to reduce 150,000 plastic bottles, equivalent to 1.8 tons of plastic
🍽 Development of a plastic-free-oriented restaurant, a resource circularity model, and a plastic-reduced tourism guidance platform.

👥 The Conference welcomed nearly 110 delegates from government departments, local authorities, experts, and tourism–service businesses, who shared experiences and discussed strategic directions for the next phase.
🍃 Speaking at the Conference, Ms. Duong Thi Thu Truyen, Deputy Director of the Hue Department of Tourism, stated that the Department will continue to play a core role in promoting plastic waste reduction initiatives across the tourism sector. Efforts will focus on strengthening inter-agency coordination, partnering with international projects, businesses, educational institutions, and local communities; enhancing communication and training; improving policy and incentive mechanisms for green tourism; and maintaining monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure that targets are implemented in a substantive and sustainable manner.

🌿 Within the framework of the Conference, Maries was honored to be selected as a project partner, providing green handicraft gifts made from Lepironia grass from Hue for participating delegates. Each gift serves as a practical alternative to single-use plastic, helping to spread the message of green tourism – plastic reduction – sustainable development.
