GEFE 2024, themed “Shaping a Green Future,” was organized by the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) in cooperation with the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham). This event brought together businesses from Vietnam and around the world to showcase and introduce sustainable products and technologies aimed at advancing the green transition.
As one of the 24 Vietnamese businesses with an exhibition booth at the event, Maries proudly presented its unique handcrafted fashion items such as bags, hats, and wallets made from Lepironia Grass—a highly sustainable natural material, harvested and crafted in a traditional village in Thua Thien Hue province, with over 500 years of history.
Maries goes beyond creating aesthetically pleasing fashion items by focusing on a circular economic model that combines Vietnam’s age-old craft traditions with modern, eco-friendly economic thinking. Through each product, Maries aims to spread the message of circular economy, striving to protect the environment and promote sustainable livelihoods for the local community.
“Businesses Embrace Global Trends” – According to Vietnam Financial Times
Vietnam Financial Times, one of the leading press outlets for economic information, reported on GEFE 2024 and highlighted Maries’ contribution. The article praised Maries for its use of Lepironia Grass in production, not only for its environmental friendliness but also because it is a material deeply connected to the traditional craft village in Hue, where artisans have preserved the trade across generations.
Maries’ participation in GEFE 2024 not only raises awareness within the business community about the importance of green economy but also reaffirms that traditional Vietnamese products can thrive in the context of a global sustainable economy, helping to bring international recognition to Vietnam’s cultural craftsmanship values. These efforts not only safeguard natural resources but also create stable employment for the local community, supporting the goals of sustainable development.
