Story 2:
The Artist
Maries’ Story…
We believe that everything in life begins with a sense of DESTINY…
“Back in June, 2020, I was a freelance artist, in the process of seeking new patterns. By chance, I came across and was greatly impressed by a charming little flower pattern on a grass bag. The material, being not as easy to work with as fabric or paper, caught my attention. That was the moment I got to know about Maries and became a member,” shared Ms. Truong Thi Thuy Vy, a Maries artist.
As one of the dedicated artists who has been with Maries for the past 3 years, Ms. Truong Thi Thuy Vy – the creator of innovative designs like the Lotus Leaf, iconic Vietnamese figures such as the Ao Dai girl, exquisite ornamental patterns, and mythical creatures like the Dragon, Unicorn, Turtle, and Phoenix – has brought her unique touch to Maries.
Thuy Vy has 5 years of experience in adorning Ao Dai. Her livelihood, as well as her child’s, relied on this work, but it was not stable due to the remote location and the meager income that barely covered their daily expenses.
“Since becoming an essential part of Maries, I feel fortunate to work in a harmonious sisterhood environment and under an amazing female boss. My life has changed since becoming a Maries staff member; I can pursue my artistic passion through every creation. Both my child and I have a stable income and enjoy the company’s benefits. My future direction with Maries is to continue working and striving every day with everyone to bring more beautiful products to our customers both at home and abroad.
Patterns are a significant part of transforming a simple, rustic grass bag into something with a “soul.”
With the skilled hands of an artist, each bag design harmonizes with different patterns, compositions, and balance. When touched, we can easily sense the thickness of the color, painted with specialized, long-lasting pigments.
Maries is delighted that Maries’ Bang Grass products have been embraced and cherished by customers. This signifies that Maries’ relentless efforts, along with the dedication of its artisans and villagers from Huế, have been reciprocated.
We hope that these locally-crafted products, born from the hands of Vietnamese artists, filled with love and aspirations for the development of traditional craft villages, will continue to be “given wings” to soar even farther.
